Assistant Food Services Manager at St Patricks College

JOB DESCRIPTION

Are you passionate about food, community, and creating positive experiences?

We are looking for a dedicated Assistant Food Services Manager to help lead the day-to-day operations of our vibrant College Café.

Monday to Friday

6am - 2pm

Term Time - with Flexibility for additional hours when required

In this role, you will work closely with the Food Services Manager to deliver high-quality food services across the College. From menu planning to volunteer coordination, your leadership will ensure the Café runs smoothly, safely and in alignment with SMART CHOICES guidelines.

The responsibilities include

Food Preparation & Service 

  • Creation and planning of seasonal menus in line with the SMART CHOICES guidelines 

  • Manage food preparation and cooking duties for the College. 

  • Oversee all internal College Catering requirements. 

  • Oversee the allocation of specific tasks to volunteers (e.g., food preparation, serving, washing up, routine cleaning and tidying and periodic cleaning). 

  • Ensure daily cleaning and tidying of the Café area after service and before closing. 

  • Ensure correct food hygiene practices to prevent spoilage and contamination. 

Customer Service 

  • Offer new ideas to promote the Café menu within the College community. 

  • Display ingredient information relevant to students with allergies. 

  • Assist with the day-to-day operation of the Café to ensure a positive customer experience. 

Health & Safety Compliance 

  • Ensure volunteers adopt good hygiene practices. 

  • Assist volunteers who may be injured under workplace health and safety guidelines and report details to the Food Services Manager/Dean of Business Operations without delay. 

  • Complete and submit online incident forms.  

  • Adhere to food safety regulations for storage, use, and display of stock. 

  • Attend training in hygiene, nutrition, and regulatory compliance. 

  • Always observe College security practices. 

  • Ensure protective clothing/footwear is worn in the kitchen by staff and volunteers. 

  • Stock Management & Inventory 

Assist the Food Services Manager with a range of operational duties including but not limited to: 

  • quality control of deliveries. 

  • Ordering of Café stock. 

  • Storage of Café stock in a tidy, clean, practical manner  

  • Cross-reference invoices and submit to the College finance department. 

  • Conduct periodic stock takes. 

  • Equipment & Facility Management 

  • Ensure equipment is used correctly, cleaned promptly, maintained and repaired as necessary. 

  • Assist with general Café maintenance and cleanliness. 

  • Assist the Food Services Manager with the supervision of work undertaken by Cafe' volunteers during their rostered shifts.  

  • Assist with the training of new volunteers in their duties, ensuring the correct procedures are adopted for equipment usage and hygiene practices.  

  • Monitor daily task forms. 

  • Perform other duties as requested by the Food Services Manager or the Dean of Business Operations 

  • Participate in relevant Professional Development applicable to the role to enhance knowledge, skills and efficiencies. 


RECOMMENDED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Please note: You should have a minimum 2 years previous experience in the above or similar roles.


REQUIREMENTS

ABOUT YOU


• Minimum 2 years' experience in hospitality, food service operations, or a commercial kitchen.
• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or Hospitality, or equivalent qualifications (Chef or Cook trade qualification highly desirable).
• Knowledge of SMART CHOICES and healthy food preparation.
• Previous experience supervising staff or coordinating a team in a hospitality environment highly regarded.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Current Blue Card (or ability to obtain).
• First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
• Food Handler and Food Safety Supervisor Certificates (or willingness to obtain).
